Boomers top Crushers 9-4

The Schaumburg Boomers opened a three-game set against the Lake Erie Crushers with a 9-4 victory Sunday.

Trailing 1-0 the Boomers scored four times in the bottom of the first and never trailed again.

The first three batters reached base before Mark Nelson was able to tie the game with an RBI single. Gerard Hall lifted a sacrifice fly to put Schaumburg ahead.

The Boomers tacked on 3 runs in the third and 2 in the fifth to account for the final. Hunter Ackerman worked 6 innings and struck out five to improve to 3-1. Ty Nelson finished with 3 hits to lead a 13-hit attack, and Joe De Pinto drove in a pair of runs in the win.

Schaumburg (35-26) has won four in a row and improved on the league's best home record by winning for the 24th time at home. The second game of the series takes place at 6:30 p.m. Monday with RHP Eddie Cody (1-1, 3.04) starting for the Boomers against RHP Jason Wilson (6-3, 2.
