Bull riding, talent winners highlight Kane fair
Large crowds took advantage of the pleasant weather to spend time with friends and family on Saturday - the fourth day of the Kane County Fair.
People lined up for carnival rides, corn dogs and frozen lemonade. The schedule was packed with activities including Professional Championship Bullriding, pig racing and performance by the top talent competitors from Kane County.
The bull riders took to the ring in the afternoon for the second round in the three-round tournament. The third round was scheduled for Saturday night. The riders admit to being tired from the constant touring and performing, but they still make it their aim to put on an impressive show.
"It ain't like any other sport," said pickup man Ricky Littlejohn, as he took his horse into the ring.
He has been a bull wrangler for more than 5 years and says he "loves being on the road and rodeo life."
While the bull riding continued, the top three people in the Kane County talent competition, which took place Monday, performed their winning songs. Sophia Peterson of Elgin, who is in the 14 and younger group, and Erin Newman of St. Charles, of the ages 15 to 21 group, will go on to state competitions in January.
The fair is open noon to 10 p.m. Sunday and features the Blue Ribbon Sale at 1 p.m. at the Livestock Arena, the demolition derby at 2 and 7 p.m., the Neverly Brothers performance at 4 p.m. and American English at 7 p.m. General admission is $10. Grandstand shows, carnival rides, food and other features cost extra.
