Contestants compete tonight for spot among Top 10

A passion for music in every style from country to opera will be on display tonight when contestants vie to break the Top 10 in this year's Suburban Chicago's Got Talent contest.

Tickets are still available to see the top 15 finalists perform at 7 p.m. at the Prairie Center for the Arts in Schaumburg.

At stake in the summer-long competition — co-sponsored by the Daily Herald, the Arlington Heights Chamber of Commerce and the Prairie Center — is the top prize known as a “STARTER Kit.” It includes a performance as an opening act for a major headliner at the Arcada Theatre in St. Charles, a professional concert-style photo shoot, a promotional video drawn from competition footage and professional talent mentoring.

The finalists will have to wow the judging panel consisting of Beth Waller, John Flamini, Barbara Vitello and guest judge Ron Onesti, the president and CEO of Onesti Entertainment Corp., which runs the Arcada Theatre.

Videos from tonight's performance will be posted online later this week at dailyherald.com/entertainment/talent for general audiences to vote on a Fan Favorite, but there's nothing like a live performance in person to get a true sense of how a contestant can wow the crowd. The contestant chosen by the public during the week as a Fan Favorite will be guaranteed a spot among the Top 10 finalists. The contestant with the most overall online votes for the duration of the contest wins the ultimate Fan Favorite prize of a Funjet Vacation for two.

Tickets to the Top 15 round of Suburban Chicago's Got Talent are $10. Call (847) 895-3600 or visit prairiecenter.org.
