Cook County jail inmate charged with murder plot
A Cook County Jail inmate has been charged in connection with his alleged involvement in a murder for hire plot.
Sheriff's Department officials say 29-year-old Everardo Salinas was charged July 2 with solicitation of murder after an undercover investigation found he had been looking to hire someone to kill a 15-year-old victim he had been charged with sexually assaulting in 2013.
Investigators say they found Salinas had reached out to another inmate in an attempt to find a hit man to murder the juvenile victim in the pending case.
Prosecutors say that Salinas visited late last month with an individual who he believed to be a hit-man. In actuality, the man was an undercover officer.
Salinas was denied bond on July 3 by Cook County Circuit Judge Laura Sullivan.
