Summit School Early Learning Program in Elgin introduces all-day kindergarten

An all-day kindergarten program is now available through the Summit Early Learning Program at 331 W. River Road in Elgin.

"Our goal is to promote the success of every child," said Karen Romano, director of the Summit School Early Learning Program. "This will provide a seamless alignment of the kindergarten program with elementary school requirements.

"We are proud to be able to add this program and continue to deliver early childhood education which respects each child as an individual, fosters each child's strengths and delivers positive learning experiences to enrich life."

The Summit School all-day kindergarten program, which will meet for 178 instructional days, will be in session from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. A maximum enrollment in the class will be 20 children.

The all-day kindergarten curriculum is aligned with the state learning standards and Common Core standards. Children's development will be assessed utilizing observational assessments repeated over time in natural comfortable setting to provide valid authentic information about each child's ongoing development. The well-rounded program will include a daily physical education class.
