Palatine Park District Has New Squirrel Mascot

Palatine Park District has a new squirrel mascot who has already made several appearances at community events. The squirrel attended the recent National Trails Day at Hamilton Reservoir and was also present at the Bike Safety Clinic and Ride held at Ost Field.

For the first two weeks in June, community members were invited to submit their suggestions for a squirrel name. Over 200 entries were received. The most popular suggestions from that list have been placed on a "Name the Squirrel" ballot. Members of the community are now invited to vote for their favorite name from the list of four finalists: Chestnut, Pal, Parkie, and Sammy. Voting is being done electronically at https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/squirrel. For those without internet access, paper ballots can be submitted at Community Center, Birchwood Recreation Center, and Falcon Park Recreation Center. Voting ends on June 28.

All voters will be placed into a random prize drawing for a PPD Prize Pack that includes one-day pool passes, free buckets of balls at the Palatine Hills Golf Course Driving Range, and other PPD goodies.

Watch for the squirrel at events all summer long, including the Hometown Fest Parade on July 5th, when the squirrel's name will be announced for the first time.

The mission of Palatine Park District is to provide a variety of safe, enjoyable and affordable parks and recreation facilities and activities that will enhance the quality of life by promoting good health and well-being for all residents and visitors of the Palatine Park District.
