Boomers knock off ThunderBolts

The wait was worth it for the Schaumburg Boomers, who captured their fourth straight Frontier League victory by prevailing 4-3 over the visiting Windy City ThunderBolts on Saturday after a lengthy rain delay.

The Boomers' Jordan Dean and Gerard Hall had consecutive singles in the first, and Justin Vasquez's fielder's choice scored Dean. Alexi Colon put the Boomers ahead for good with a 3-run homer in the bottom of the fourth, his third of the season. Vasquez had 3 hits and Sean Mahley added a pair.

Boomers spot starter Hunter Ackerman struck out nine in 4 innings. Clark Labitan picked up the win with 3 scoreless relief innings and Dexter Price secured his eighth save.

The Boomers (19-13), who own the best record in the league in June and are 13-4 at home this season, aim for a series sweep today at 1 p.m. Left-hander Rey Rodriguez (1-2, 3.34 ERA) starts for the Boomers against lefty Jake Fisher (2-4, 5.65).
