Man sentenced to nine years in prison on Elmhurst gun charge

A 31-year-old Chicago man was sentenced to nine years in prison Thursday for illegally selling weapons.

Edgar Jimenez, 31, pleaded guilty to the unlawful sale or delivery of a firearm while prosecutors dropped a charge of being an armed habitual criminal.

Assistant State's Attorney Steve Knight said Jimenez, along with two other known gang members, sold an assault rifle to an informant who was working with police on Oct. 10, 2012, in an Elmhurst parking lot.

Judge Kathryn Creswell said Jimenez faced two to 10 years in prison on the charge.

Jesse Kamide, 26, of Bensenville also is charged with unlawful sale of firearms and unlawful contact with street gang members. He is next due in court on July 1.

Jimenez, as part of his deal, is expected to testify against Kamide, should his case make it to trial.
