Crystal Lake man gets 25 years for robbing pharmacy
A 31-year-old Crystal Lake man was sentenced to 25 years in prison Wednesday for robbing a pharmacy of three bottles of oxycodone in September 2012.
Eric S. Sorenson, of the 100 block of Lake County, faced up to 30 years in prison for robbing the CVS, 1305 Randall Road, Crystal Lake, at gunpoint after a jury convicted him this past April.
McHenry County Judge Sharon Prather issued the sentence, officials said.
Sorenson had been held at the McHenry County jail since his November 2012 arrest.
Police said Sorenson used his father's semiautomatic handgun on Sept. 2, 2012, to rob the pharmacy of 300 pills.
Authorities obtained a search warrant for Sorenson's home.
Prosecutors dismissed less serious charges of theft of more than $500, according to court records.
April's guilty verdict marked Sorenson's second felony conviction in McHenry County.
He received 24 months of specialized probation and 180 days in jail after admitting to a 2006 felony theft in Crystal Lake, records show. He also was ordered to pay $2,300 restitution.
The case was prosecuted by Michael Combs, chief of the McHenry County state's attorney's office's criminal division, and Assistant State's Attorney Robert Zalud.
