Convicted Elgin arsonist now wanted for burglary

A man who spent five years in prison for a 2009 arson in Elgin is wanted again on charges of a felony burglary in East Dundee, according to Kane Count court records.

An arrest warrant was issued in early May for Salvatore D. Riso, formerly of East Dundee, with a last known address of the 2200 block of West 24th Street, Chicago.

He is charged with a May 2 residential burglary and theft of more than $500, records show.

Both are felonies, and the most serious of which carries four to 15 years in prison if convicted.

East Dundee Police Chief Terry Mee has declined to comment on the charges against Riso.

Riso was released from prison in February after serving nearly five years of a 10-year sentence for a March 23, 2009, arson in Elgin.

According to police and court records, Riso pleaded guilty to setting fire to a two-story home on the 500 block of Ashland Avenue on Elgin's west side just two days after police were called there to break up a fight in which Riso was involved.

The fire engulfed the home, spreading from basement to the attic. No one was injured and five pets were rescued.

Riso, who was 19 at the time, pleaded guilty in October 2009 to the reduced charge of residential arson. He was initially charged with aggravated arson.

Under state law, he was only required to serve half his sentence.

Riso also was ordered to pay more than $265,000 restitution, court records show.

Anthony M. Huff and Jessica A. Fliginger, both 18 at the time and from Carpentersville, also pleaded guilty to their roles in the crime.

Huff was sentenced to eight years in prison for arson; Fliginger was issued two years probation for reckless property damage, records show.
