Cary motorcyclist dies after being hit by truck

A Cary man was killed Sunday morning while riding his motorcycle after being hit by a car in an unincorporated area near Marengo, police said.

William G. Hurley, 55, was riding near the intersection of Meyer Road and Route 20 at about 9 a.m., the McHenry County Sheriff's office said in a release.

Alifonso Morales, 48, Marengo, who was driving a Chevrolet pickup truck, stopped at the stop sign and then attempted to turn left onto Route 20. Morales told police he believed the roadway was clear when he attempted to turn.

Hurley told police that he saw the truck turn in front of him but was unable to avoid the crash. He was taken to Centegra Woodstock where he was transported by Flight for Life to Condell Hospital.

He later died from injuries related to the crash. He was wearing a helmet, police said.

Morales was wearing a seat belt and uninjured in the crash. He was cited for failing to yield at a stop intersection. Alcohol and drugs do not appear to be a factor in the crash, police said.
