Construction crews strike gas main in Cary

A construction crew struck a gas main Thursday afternoon near the intersection of Route 14 and Spring Beach Way in Cary, officials said.

Crews working near the intersection hit the gas line about noon, according to a message on the village's website.

Nicor Gas crews were scheduled to continue working to repair the line throughout the night on Thursday. Meanwhile, Route 14 was reduced to one lane in each direction during the repairs.

"It's a thoroughfare, so we want to try to do the repairs as quickly as possible," said Duane Bourne, a spokesman for Nicor Gas.
