Mount Prospect Woman's Club awards scholarships

The Mount Prospect Woman's Club awarded high school seniors Andrew Beck, Hannah Junius, Sarah LaCost and Joshua Popovici with $1,000 scholarships.

Andrew Beck attends Rolling Meadows High School and is a leader with the tech theater group. He is very involved with community service through Boy Scouts and is an Eagle Scout. Beck has challenged himself academically by taking all Advanced Placement classes senior year. He will attend the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, under the division of general studies.

Hannah Junius volunteers at the library and is active in many clubs at Prospect High School including Family, Career, Community, Leaders of America (FCCLA); Art Club; Environmental Club; Zoo Club; Spanish and International Club. Junius also enjoys lyrical and jazz dance. She plans to be an "Imagineer" and hopes to continue Walt Disney's legacy of changing what was thought to be "impossible." She will attend Bradley University.

Sarah LaCost is a varsity player and cross-country runner at Prospect High School. She has volunteered with youth soccer programs and works in the bakery at Mariano's. LaCost was vice president and treasurer of the FCCLA. She plans to be an occupational therapist and will attend Concordia University, Chicago.

Joshua Popovici is a musician at Hersey High School involved with symphonic band, honors orchestra, jazz band and show/choir combo. Popovici was an All-State section leader for the Illinois Music Education Association. He also plays trumpet with the church brass band and sings with the choir. He plans to study engineering at the Illinois Institute of Technology, but hopes to someday complete a music degree as well.

The Mount Prospect Woman's Club 2014 Scholarship Committee, Nancy Clauser, Marlys Haaland and Lori Leane, are very proud of these four recipients.

The club raises money for these scholarships by holding an annual fashion/luncheon show every May.
