Softball: Fox Valley roundup Tuesday, May 20

Grayslake North 2, Hampshire 0: The Whip-Purs were unable to secure the Fox Valley Conference Fox Division title outright as they fell to Grayslake North, leaving them in a first-place tie with Grayslake Central. Sara Finn, Aly Snider and Becca Hurst had the only hits in the loss for Hampshire (19-12, 10-2). Haley Widmayer (17-10) didn't allow an earned run, gave up just 4 hits and had 8 strikeouts with 3 walks in suffering the loss.

Bartlett 2, Waubonsie Valley 1: A day after losing to South Elgin and being eliminated from Upstate Eight Valley title contention, the Hawks (24-6, 13-4) came back and used a walk off home run from senior Kayla Haberstich to beat Valley champion Waubonsie Valley. Bartlett had just 2 hits in the game as Sydney Johnson broke up Shannon Hohman's no-hitter in the fifth inning. Holly Pagan (16-5) picked up the win for the Hawks, allowing 4 hits with 3 strikeouts and 4 walks.

Jacobs 12, CL Central 4: Teaghan Richman was 2-for-4 with a home run and 2 RBI to lead the Golden Eagles (15-11) to an FVC crossover win against the same team they will face Monday in the Class 4A regional opener. Alyssa Lach was 2-for-4 with a double and 3 RBI for Jacobs, while Emily Borg went 3-for-3 with an RBI and Payton Stirling was 2-for-3. Taylor Gagliano also drove in a run for the Eagles, while Lach gave up just 3 hits in 4 innings of relief for the win in the circle.

Elgin 7, Streamwood 6: Jenna Perryman was 3-for-3 with a triple, 2 doubles and 4 RBI to lead the Maroons (13-17, 8-9) to an Upstate Eight River win. Kelly Bremer (2B, RBI), Sabrina Stockman (2-for-3, 2B, RBI), and winning pitcher Jessica Rago (2B, RBI) also contributed to the offense. Rago struck out 8, walked 3 and allowed just 2 earned runs. Mercedes Olmos (3-for-4, 2B), Kaitlyn Hedger (2-for-3, 3 RBI) and Melissa Malcom (2-for-4, 2B, 3 RBI) led the Sabres (4-16, 3-14). Hedger took the loss in the circle.

CL South 8, Woodstock North 0: Hailee Massie fired a 1-hitter with 11 strikeouts and no walks to lead the Gators (14-11) to an FVC crossover win. Brooklyn Maddox led the Crystal Lake South offense, going 2-for-4 with a home run and 2 RBI. Erin Yazel (3-for-4, 3B), Sam McLean (3B), Jenica Terry (3-for-3, 2 doubles, 2 RBI) and Amy Ciavarella (2-for-3) also contributed.

Batavia 8, Larkin 4: Larkin had 7 hits by 7 different players but couldn't push across enough runs in this UEC River loss. Sarah Hansen suffered the loss in the circle for the Royals (4-21, 2-13).

South Elgin 10, Metea Valley 6: The Storm stayed hot, winning their fifth straight in this UEC Valley contest. Mallory Mecklenburg was 2-for-4 with a double, her fifth home run of the season, and 3 RBI to lead the win. Sam Helton (2-for-4, 2B, 2 RBI), Brittany Koss (2-for-4, 2B, 2 RBI) and Taylor Ford (2-for-4, 2 RBI) also contributed. Paige Allen picked up the win for South Elgin (16-12, 10-8). Alyssa Buddle also drove in a run.

Cary-Grove 22, Woodstock 0: Jamie Deering went 5-for-5 with 2 doubles and 4 RBI as the Trojans (16-12) rolled to an FVC crossover win. Sarah Kendeigh and Brianne Prank each homered for Cary-Grove and Caitlyn Adams gave up 4 hits with 7 strikeouts and 3 walks to earn the win in the circle.
