Car crash cancels Lake Zurich board meeting

A car that crashed into a transformer outside Lake Zurich's village hall Monday night caused the cancellation of a village board meeting and power outages throughout parts of the village, police said.

Just after 6 p.m., a man driving a red Jeep SUV west on Main Street left the road just before Lions Drive, taking down a couple of streetlights, said Lake Zurich Sgt. Scott Warren. The vehicle continued onto the village hall property, where it crashed into a flagpole, decorative brick wall and electrical boxes, Warren said.

"It's still under investigation, but it appears that it was a medical event," Warren said. "It was not a case of reckless driving or anything like that."

Nobody was seriously injured in the crash. The driver was taken to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital near Lake Barrington to be evaluated.

ComEd crews remained on the scene throughout the night to restore power, Warren said.
