St. Edward opens postseason with easy win
The St. Edward girls soccer team opened the postseason Tuesday with an easy 9-0 win over Elgin Academy in the semifinals of the Class 1A Westminster Christian regional.
The Green Wave (21-2-0) will meet the winner of today's game between Harvest Christian and Westminster at 4:30 p.m. Friday for the regional championship.
In Tuesday's win, Allison Kruk had 2 goals for St. Edward, while Corey Lepoudre added a goal and 2 assists, as did Chelsea Gnan.
Kathleen Duffy, Monica Ramirez, Alex Zeller, Cece Kochanek and Maddie Spagnola also scored for the Green Wave and Paige Dykstra had 5 saves in goal to register her 18th shutout of the season, a new St. Edward record.
Batavia 3, Bartlett 1: Jamie Kenna scored off an assist from Shannon Brohan for the Hawks' only goal in this Upstate Eight crossover loss. Tessa Jatczak had 8 saves in goal for Bartlett (11-9-1).
Elgin 4, East Aurora 0: Gabby Delgado had 2 goals and Nancy Garcia had a goal and an assist to lead Elgin (8-9) to a UEC crossover win. Jenny Lopez added a goal and an assist for the Maroons and Marceci Santiago had an assist. Hannah Demel made 5 saves in goal.
West Chicago 4, Larkin 1: In another UEC crossover, Jaci Bridgers scored Larkin's lone goal. Alejandra Villagomez had 6 saves in net for the Royals.
Huntley 1, McHenry 0: Abigail Nordeen scored off a Beth Parks assist in the 76th minute to lift Huntley (13-6, 3-2) to a Fox Valley Conference Valley Division win. Jessica Galason had 3 saves in goal for the Red Raiders.
