Arlington Heights woman, 90, dies after hit by vehicle in parking lot
A 90-year-old Arlington Heights woman hit by a vehicle Friday in a grocery store parking lot has died from her injuries, Mount Prospect police said Saturday in a news release.
Harriet S. Abernethy-Ogorzalek was struck about 2 p.m. Friday while walking in a marked pedestrian crossing lane in a grocery store parking lot at 333 E. Euclid Ave., police said.
She was taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, where she died from her injuries later in the day, police said.
Abernethy-Ogorzalek, who was using a walker, was in the middle of a pedestrian walkway crossing the main drive through the parking lot when she was hit. She was headed toward the grocery store entrance.
The driver of the vehicle was an 88-year-old woman from Northbrook, police said. Speed does not appear to have been a factor in the accident, police said. No tickets have been issued so far.
Police are continuing to investigate the collision and asked that anyone who witnessed the crash or has any addition information call the Major Accident Investigation Team at (847) 870-5656.
