Man pleads guilty to Naperville Radio Shack robbery
The first of three men charged with robbing a Naperville store of more than $40,000 worth of cellphones pleaded guilty Friday to aggravated robbery with a firearm and was sentenced to 15 years in prison.
DuPage Judge Kathryn Creswell also ordered Christopher Nesbit, 45, of Chicago to testify against both of his co-defendants, should they go to trial.
Assistant State's Attorney Steve Knight said Nesbit, along with Dennis Clark, 23, of Chicago, threatened two employees with a gun during the robbery on Aug. 12, 2013, at Radio Shack, 1223 E. Ogden Ave.
"They demanded the employees' personal phones and all the others in the store," Knight said.
Afterward, they locked the employees in a bathroom and sped off in a Volvo with more than $40,000 in cellphones, Knight said in court.
Nesbit was taken into custody when the getaway vehicle driven by Jalin Parks, 20, of Chicago crashed near 15th Street and Kolin Avenue in Chicago, authorities said.
Clark and Parks also were charged with armed robbery and were described in court as gang members. If convicted, they faced extended prison terms of 21 to 45 years because a gun was involved.
Clark's next court appearance is scheduled for May 29, also before Creswell. Parks has decided to have Creswell hear his case during a June 3 bench trial.
