Somehow Sterling will come out ahead

Our daily news cycle anymore seems to revolve around athletics - whether it's the Northwestern Wildcats football team opting for a players union, the proliferation of sports on every television channel or the debacle currently under way with the Los Angeles Clippers. As in just about every issue in America these days, money - or the lack of it - seems to be at the core.

Northwestern athletes want medical coverage at the expense of the school. All professional sports organizations want a bigger piece of the TV pie. And the owner of the Clippers may demand more than a half billion for his team if forced to sell.

After investing $12 million to buy the team, Mr. Sterling now wants $575 million, making a profit of $563, before taxes, if that makes it more palatable for the reader to accept. After his latest racist remarks, adding to his bigoted history, that's not a bad paycheck.
