Shales Parkway shut down in Elgin

Shales Parkway is shut down by police between Route 19 and Route 20 due to a hazard in the roadway, authorities said.

An Elgin police spokeswoman could not say what the hazard was, but said police shut down the roadway at about 8 a.m. to "protect motorists" from any danger.

She didn't say when the roadway would reopen, but urged drivers to find an alternate route.
