Rauner: Term limits push gets 590,000 signatures
SPRINGFIELD - GOP gubernatorial candidate Bruce Rauner says he has more than 590,000 signatures in support of a ballot measure that would ask voters whether term limits should be introduced.
By law, Rauner was required to collect 300,000 signatures to get it on the November ballot. He's confident voters will approve the question.
The Winnetka businessman displayed the 1,600 lbs. of paperwork at a Springfield warehouse where the petitions have been kept.
Rauner's term limits committee is filing the petitions with the state board of elections Wednesday.
Rauner wants to limit lawmakers' terms to eight years in office and to make other structural changes to the legislature.
He says it will cause a "dramatic shift" at the state capital, which he says has a corrupt culture.
