Harper's Hinderer headed for Cardinal Stritch
Harper College is losing the second-leading scorer in program history, but the mood was nothing but positive on Monday as Monica Hinderer officially secured a basketball future for herself at Cardinal Stritch University in Milwaukee after excelling with the Hawks for two seasons.
The 6-foot post standout will major in psychology.
"It was a really hard decision," said Hinderer, whose final decision came down to Stritch and Benedictine University in Lisle.
It is not yet clear what role Hinderer will play for the Wolves next season, as coach John Pfaffl did not make any promises. But as of now, Hinderer is the only true post player on the roster for for next season.
The Wolves finished 27-7 overall and were runners-up in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference to Saint Xavier. They qualified to the NAIA national tournament and advanced to the semifinals before suffering a 68-64 loss to No. 1 University of Saint Francis.
Cardinal Stritch finished the season ranked No. 8 in the final NAIA women's basketball national poll.
"Cardinal Stritch just fit everything I was looking for," said Hinderer, who averaged more than 21 points and 14 rebounds this season for the Hawks and coach Jenny Turpel.
