Lincolnshire Troop 78 reaches 100 Eagle Scouts
Boy Scout Troop 78 in Lincolnshire recognized 4 scouts who have earned the rank of Eagle Scout at a Court of Honor held Sunday April 27, 2014. William Paul, John (Jack) Tolbert, Derek Zimmerman, and Nick VanOverberghe were numbers 97, 98, 99 and 100 from Troop 78 to receive the Eagle Scout Award. The Boy Scouts of America Troop 78 is sponsored by the Community Christian Church in Lincolnshire. These four scouts completed the requirements for the highest rank in scouting including required merit badges, leadership roles and completion of an Eagle project that benefits the community.
William Paul completed his Eagle project by restoring the Rivershire Nature Center Trail used by School District 103 and community residents. Jack Tolbert worked with the Friends of Ryerson and Lincolnshire Garden Club to reconstruct the courtyard at the historic Brushwood home. Nick VanOverberghe installed birdhouses at Florsheim Woods to attract native birds. Derek Zimmerman worked with the Lincolnshire Sports Association to design and construct field hockey goals.
Special guest speakers included Commander, Al Seyler and Junior Vice Commander, Mel Ellingsen of the United State Marine Corps League, Lake County Detachment 801 and Brian Burch, Eagle Scout Coordinator, Signal Hill District, North Suburban Council of the Boy Scouts of America. Mr. Burch, presented "What the Scout Law Means to Me" by John Wayne as well as the Eagle Charge which challenges the Eagle Scouts to continue their leadership and service.
Mr. Michael Fazio, Troop 78 Life to Eagle Coordinator and Mr. John, Tolbert, Troop 78 Scoutmaster presented the four scouts with their Eagle Scout Award, neckerchief and pins. After the ceremony, a reception was held with the Marine delegation leading a cake cutting.
