Schaumburg's Alt halts Prospect
Paige Alt had a game to remember on the pitcher's mound for Schaumburg's softball team on Thursday.
The Saxons' sophomore fired a no-hitter, striking out eight of the 16 batters she faced in a 10-0 victory over visiting Prospect in 5 innings.
Alt (2-1) also sparkled at the plate where she went 2-for-3 with a RBI.
Her catcher, sophomore Christina Candotti, also had a big day by going 3-for-3 with a home run, double and 4 RBI.
Also leading the Saxons' offense were Elaine Walker (2-for-2, solo home run, walk), Sarah Schwind (1-for-2, RBI), Natalie Napier (1-for-3, 2 RBI) and Shannon Felde (1-for-3, RBI).
Schaumburg improved to 7-4 and 2-0 in the MSL West while Prospect fell to 3-4 and 1-1 in the MSL East.
Fremd 5, Buffalo Grove 1: Junior Julie Josten belted her team-high ninth double of the season and went 2-for-3 with an RBI for the host Vikings (7-2, 2-0).
Josten's sister Joanna Josten went all 7 innings, striking out three and walking one in a 6-hitter that raised her record to 6-1.
Other top hitters for the Vikes were leadoff batter Abbi Iurio (3-for-4, 2 runs, RBI) and Alyssa Garcia (2-for-4, RBI, stolen base).
Dea Barton went 2-for-3 for the Bison (4-5, 1-1) while teammate Jasmine Avalos had a double. Michelle Dublin's sacrifice fly in the second inning brought home BG's run.
Barrington 16, Hersey 5 (6 inn): Barrington belted 4 home run in the game, led by Rachel Krzysko (2-for-2, 5 RBI) who had 3-run and 2-run blasts over the fence.
Liz Sweeney added a grand slam and Erin Ward had a 3-run homer as the host Fillies improved to 8-4 and 1-1 in the MSL West.
Keenan Dolezal (7-4) struck out seven and walked one in 4⅔ innings to notch the win.
Other key hitters for the Fillies were Kelly Katis (2-for-2, double, 2 RBI), Jennifer Inamoto (2-for-4, RBI) and Samantha McQueen (2-for-3, 2 runs).
Angela Schmiederer doubled for the Huskies (5-4-1, 1-1).
Elk Grove 12, Palatine 0 (5 inn): Becca Maher (3-for-4, 2 doubles), Brianna Leach (3-for-3, 2 doubles, triple), Brooke Barges (3-for-3, double, triple) and Melissa Picchi (doubles) were offensive leaders for the visiting Grens (10-1, 1-1), who became the first MSL team to reach double-digit wins this spring.
Senior Megan Eul (8-1) went four innings for the win while freshman Kylie Thomsen retired the side in order in the fifth, getting 1 strikeout.
Nora Walsh had the only hit for Palatine (3-10, 0-2).
Conant 23, Rolling Meadows 1 (5 inn): It was certainly a Sweet 16 birthday for Sara Neumann.
The Conant sophomore ace celebrated with a 1-hitter and also belted a solo homer while going 3-for-5 with 2 RBI and 2 runs.
Other offensive leaders for the host Cougars' 22-hit attack were Elissa Ambrose (3-for-4, 4 RBI, 3 runs), Rachel O'Malley (4-for-5, 3 runs, 3 RBI), Telly Hunter (4-for-5, 6 RBI, 3 runs), Dream Aaron (2-for-4, 2 runs) and Rachel Falbo (2-for-2, 3 runs, 2 RBI).
Jenny Watson singled and scored in the first inning to give Rolling Meadows (1-9, 0-2) a 1-0 lead. Lane Winkler had the RBI.
Maine West 18, Highland Park 2 (5 inn.): Kayla Pociejewski belted a 3-run homer and went 4-5 with 4 RBI as visiting Maine West improved to 5-6 and 2-0 with the CSL North win.
Teammates Alyssa Pegoraro was 3-for-3 with 2 runs and Monica Liwag 2-for-5 with 3 runs.
West pitchers Grace Feldkamp (3 strikeouts in 3 innings) and Anne Wilieko (4 strikeouts in 2 innings) combined for a 4-hitter.
