Elk Grove paying $40,000 for fireworks

Elk Grove Village is paying $40,000 for three fireworks shows scheduled for later this year.

The village board approved a contract this week with Chicago-based Johnny Rockets Fireworks Display Corporation to design and produce fireworks shows scheduled to take place during RotaryFest in June, Fourth of July, and the village tree lighting ceremony in November.

The company has done village fireworks displays for the past 12 years, and has locked in the $40,000 annual rate through 2016. The village's payment is partially offset by donations made by residents on their water bills.

Mayor Craig Johnson said the village previously had a separate $8,000 contracts for two fireworks shows during the Tour of Elk Grove, a cycling event that is being discontinued this year.
