County workers promoted after contributing to boss

Several employees who work for Cook County Circuit Clerk Dorothy Brown received promotions and hefty raises after donating to their boss's campaign fund.

The Chicago Sun-Times reported none of the four employees broke any laws. But county officials say they're uncomfortable with the idea of promotions for workers contributing to Brown.

At a recent county board meeting, Commissioner Bridget Gainer said that the donations by four of the five employees who received promotions in December are the kind of thing that "makes people crazy about government."

A Brown spokeswoman said there's no connection between the promotions and the contributions.

Combined the four - or their spouses - donated more than $3,800 to Brown's campaign between 2000 and 2012, when Brown stopped accepting donations from employees.
