Rolling Green Country Club awards Evans Scholarships to five recipients

Rolling Green Country Club, an annual sponsor/contributor to the Evans Scholars Foundation recently announced five new recipients of the prestigious scholarship. All five recipients are seniors in high school and will graduate in 2014.

The Evans Scholars Foundation was founded in 1930 and is administered by the Western Golf Association. The Scholarship is named for Charles "Chick" Evans of Chicago, who was an honorary member of Rolling Green Country Club in Arlington Heights. Chick, who learned the game of golf as a caddie, gained world-wide fame in 1916 when he became the first golfer to win both the US Amateur and the US Open Championship in the same year. Insisting on maintaining his amateur status, Chick directed any money recovered from golf be used to fund caddy scholarships. Today, there are 840 current young men and women Evans Scholars, and nearly 9,800 alumni.

This year, Rolling Green's recipients of the Evans Scholarship include: Danny Atwood, Gina Marie Burck, Kevin Burck, Jacob Schwister and Marek Szczypta.

Next fall these extraordinary young men and women will join the ranks of the eleven current Rolling Green Country Club Evans Scholars and the 47 alumni of the program who came before them.
