Mount Prospect hosts electronic recycling drop-off

Under the Illinois Product Recycling and Reuse Act, instituted on Jan. 1, 2012, specific electronics are prohibited from being thrown away in the garbage.

To assist residents with the proper management of their old, unusable electronics, Mount Prospect, in partnership with the Solid Waste Agency of Northern Cook County, has established an Electronics Recycling Drop-off site at the Mount Prospect Public Works Facility.

Since 2012, Mount Prospect Public Works drop-off site has proved to be extremely successful. In total, over 181,000 pounds of electronics have been collected for recycling.

Starting, Wednesday, April 9, and continuing every Wednesday through October, village and SWANCC member community residents can drop-off electronics at the public works facility. Items for recycling will only be accepted on Wednesdays between the hours of 10 a.m.-noon. Items brought to the public works facility outside of designated hours will not be collected.

Not all electronics items will be accepted. Please visit www.mountprospect.org or www.swancc.org to review the electronics recycling acceptable items list to see if your electronics item will be accepted at the drop-off site.
