Kids learn about Lake County's Ice Age inhabitants during program
Because of this year's long, cold, snowy winter, the last thing Lake County residents want to hear about is the Ice Age.
However, throw in some talk about saber-toothed tigers, woolly mammoths and mastodons, and one might just show some interest.
Lake County Discovery Museum educator Nicole Stocker captured the attention of around 45 kids ages 4 and up by presenting two age-appropriate programs Tuesday called Mighty Mastodons.
The 45-minute sessions were held in the children's story room at the Ela Area Public Library in Lake Zurich. The program teaches about life and animals existing in Lake County more than 10,000 years ago.
Besides reading stories and showing photos, Stocker brought skull casts of a beaver, wolf and saber-toothed tiger, and tooth casts of a mastodon and woolly mammoth.
Mighty Mastodons is a regular school program presented by the museum staff.
