Best-selling author to visit Bloomingdale library

Best-selling author Elizabeth Berg will read from her latest novel, "Tapestry of Fortunes," during an appearance at 7 p.m. Monday, March 31, at the Bloomingdale Public Library, 101 Fairfield Way.

Berg also is expected to talk about her writing process and inspiration and then sign copies of her book.

"Elizabeth Berg has always had a large following at BPL and we are delighted to have her come speak at the library," said Julie Keating, adult services department head.

"Her books have been very meaningful to many people over the years, and we are looking forward to an entertaining evening," she said.

Funding for the program is provided by the Writer's Workshop of Bloomingdale, a group that met at the library for many years. The group recently disbanded and donated its treasury to the library.

Berg's books have been translated into more than 25 languages and several TV movies have been produced based on her work.

Her book "Open House" was an Oprah Book Club selection. She also won the American Library Association's Best Book of Year award twice for her novels "Durable Goods" and "Joy School."

Berg was born in St. Paul Minn., and now lives in a Chicago suburb. According to her website, she submitted her first poem to American Girl Magazine when she was 9 and it was rejected. It wasn't until more than 20 years later that she submitted another piece publication, won a magazine contest, and started writing for periodicals.

After 10 years, she began writing novels.
