Baseball: Prospect upends New Trier
Prospect scored a run in the bottom of the sixth inning to edge New Trier 2-1 in nonconference baseball action Saturday.
Winning pitcher Tyler Priessing had 9 strikeouts and just 1 walk in a complete game effort.
Jacob Kiel (3 doubles, 2 RBI) led the Prospect offense.
The Knights improve to 6-7-1 on the season.
Maine West 12, Wheeling 6: A 6-run fifth inning keyed the victory for Maine West (5-7-1). The Warriors cranked out 15 hits, led by Costa Paschus (2) with a home run. David Roscoe (3 hits, 3 RBI), Justin Scholler (3 hits) and Jacob Cabral (2 hits) also came up big. Cabral was also the winning pitcher and gave up 1 walk over two innings. Wheeling, which drops to 6-5, had 5 errors.
Barrington 14, Mundelein 7: Barrington rolled up 16 hits and used a 6-run fourth inning to take control of the nonconference tilt. Mundelein also had 4 errors. The Barrington offense was led by Clark Elliott (3 hits, 2 RBI) and Tommy Fitzpatrick (3 hits, 2 doubles). Rayth Petersen added 2 hits, both doubles, and drove in 2 runs. John Seagrist and Nate Gazda also had 2 hits. Winning pitcher Sammy Sabatello had 3 strikeouts.
Warren 11, Hoffman Estates 3: Hoffman Estates dropped to 1-12-1 with the loss. Hayden Carlson and Jose Castaneda each had 2 hits for the Hawks.
Glenbrook South 15, Buffalo Grove 12: A 10-run fourth inning and 13 hits overall weren't enough to get the job done for Buffalo Grove, which drops to 8-3 on the season. Riku Komatani (3 hits, 2 RBI) led the Bison while Danny Pocklington, Mark Antonetti, Mike Roberts and Nick Openbrier each had 2 hits.
Grayslake North 8, Hersey 1: Hersey was held hitless. Winning pitcher Adam Calhoun gave up just 3 walks over five innings for Grayslake North. Hersey drops to 7-7 on the season.
Maine South 11, Conant 1: A 9-run fourth inning keyed the victory for Maine South, which improves to 9-7. The Hawks were led by Timmy O'Brien (2 hits), Mike Altman (2 hits) and Tyler Houck (2 hits). Christian Seegers had 2 hits for Conant (3-11).
Plainfield Central 14, Elk Grove 2: Elk Grove, which drops to 5-6, was held to just 2 hits. Zach Schwartz had one of those hits and drove in both Elk Grove runs.
Dundee-Crown 11, Schaumburg 1: Joe Unger drove in the only run for Schaumburg, which drops to 6-5.
Deerfield 12, Rolling Meadows 2: Deerfield used a 9-run fourth inning to take control. For Rolling Meadows (2-10), Sean Budin drove in a run.
