Endorsement: Andersson in House District 65
Longtime State Rep. Tim Schmitz's decision to not run for re-election in House District 65 brought forward three Republicans seeking to fill the void. Steve Andersson, a municipal attorney for a variety of suburbs, is also a library board member in Geneva. Daniel Ugaste of Geneva is a workers' comp attorney, and Debbie Miller of Elgin is a small businesswoman who lost a bid for the Kane County Board. Miller has difficulty articulating her views and clearly hasn't studied or formed opinions on several issues. Both Andersson and Ugaste are opposed to expansion of gambling in Illinois. Both are proponents of term limits, eliminating the income tax increase, preserving the Second Amendment and limiting how much money political leaders can funnel to candidates. A couple of things differentiate them. Ugaste is emphatic that he does not support a redefinition of marriage, while Andersson says gay marriage is a done deal and further discussion is only a distraction to solving the state's financial problems. Andersson also wants to go after double dipping from public pension systems. For those reasons, Andersson is endorsed.
