Hear music of 'Sci-Fi Classics' at ESO concert

The Elgin Symphony Orchestra is preparing for a sci-fi movie music concert connecting the audience with music that brings science fiction to life.

Guest conductor Matthew Kraemer returns to lead the Elgin Symphony Orchestra and the Dundee-Crown High School Chamber Choir in the "Out of This World: Sci Fi Movie Classics" concert.

With performances this weekend in Schaumburg and Elgin, cult-classic sci-fi music and film clips such as "Star Wars," "Star Trek," "Close Encounters of the Third Kind," "Aliens" and "Back to the Future" will be performed.

Audience members will hear a variety of composers, one being movie-music extraordinaire John Williams. The Dundee-Crown High School Chamber Choir, under the direction of Lisa Bettcher, performs for "Star Trek Into Darkness" and for portions of the "Music from Star Wars Suite" which ends the program.

Recognized for his "musical sensitivity" and "energized sense of interpretation," Matthew Kraemer is quickly making his mark among young American conductors for his inspired performances and versatility. Appointed Music Director of the Butler County Symphony and the Erie Chamber Orchestra in 2012, he has reinvigorated both ensembles with innovative programming and elevated performance standards. The Dundee Crown High School Chamber Choir, under the direction of Lisa Bettcher, is an auditioned group of choral students.

Chamber Choir has performed at the Sears Centre with the Elgin Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Dr. Robert Hanson. Other past performances include the NEA Convention, the Illinois Commission on Diversity and Human Relations, a concert with the Millikin University Chamber Singers, under the direction of Dr. Guy Forbes, and most recently in the D300 Choral Festival under the direction of Dr. Barrington Coleman.

After Saturday night performances, the audience is invited to "Mingle with the Musicians" at the local restaurant, Elgin Public House.
