Vernon Hills students get creative to promote fire safety
Eighth-graders at Hawthorn Middle School North teamed up with their student advisory groups to perform fire safety and prevention skits Friday in Vernon Hills.
The contest, sponsored by Countryside Fire Protection District, consisted of 90-second skits created by the students and performed during an all-school assembly.
Countryside firefighters acted as judges of the contest. The skits were judged on creativity, facts, duration and following directions. Skit themes included a parody of the song “We Didn’t Start the Fire,” “The Three Little Pigs” and “The Ghosts of Fires Past.”
The winning team shared a $300 Buffalo Wild Wings party. Second place was a $200 Cold Stone Creamery party, and third place was a $100 Robeks Juice party.
