Man sentenced for cocaine possession in Elgin
A Springfield man pleaded guilty Tuesday to possessing 87.8 grams (nearly three ounces) of cocaine when Elgin police stopped him two years ago.
In exchange for his guilty plea to the class one felony, Zachary Bramlett, 40, was sentenced to four years in prison.
Elgin police arrested Bramlett in May 2012 in connection with a drug surveillance operation, prosecutors said. Undercover officers observed a car stopped in the northbound lane of Beverly Road, north of Shoe Factory Road, and suspected a drug transaction, prosecutors said during Bramlett’s bond hearing last year.
Bramlett must complete at least 50 percent of his sentence before he is eligible for parole.
