Apply for Schaumburg’s Community Scholarship
Mayor Al Larson announced the availability of the 21st Annual Community Scholarship in cooperation with Business and Career Services Inc. A President’s Committee will select the scholarship winner or winners.
As a result of a joint scholarship development campaign in the business community, our municipality has been provided funding to award a scholarship(s) to qualified resident(s) to pursue educational training, upgrading or retraining. The scholarship(s) can be applied toward tuition, books and any other commensurate educational expenses.
Eligibility and selection criteria:
Ÿ Must be a resident of Schaumburg
Ÿ Authorized to work in the United States
Ÿ Must demonstrate financial need
Ÿ May be a first-time, continuing or returning student
Ÿ Must have education or career goals
Ÿ Must be interested in completing coursework that supports education or career
goals
Ÿ Must demonstrate the ability to successfully complete coursework
Ÿ Must take coursework at an approved Illinois educational institution
Ÿ May submit only one application per person
Candidates must complete the scholarship application, submit two references and photo identification, which includes date of birth and Social Security number (example: photocopy of driver’s license and photocopy of Social Security card). Follow the directions given in each section of the application; failure to do so may result in disqualification. Be sure to complete and include the section of the application that covers financial need.
Remember, applicants’ answers and references are limited to the space provided. Typed applications are preferred. Applications are available at:

Candidates must submit completed application and two references by 3 p.m. on Friday, April 11, 2014, to: Office of the President 101 Schaumburg Court, Schaumburg, Illinois 60193
The scholarship recipient will be notified by Friday, April 25, or as soon as possible thereafter. The scholarship is valid until June 15, 2015, and is nonrenewable.
Scholarship recipients will not receive cash. The associate director at Business and Career Services Inc. will assist the scholarship recipient with academic advising, enrollment and payment directly to the educational institution of tuition, fees, books and approved supplies not exceeding the amount of the scholarship. Eligibility for additional services provided through the Workforce Investment Act will also be reviewed with the recipients.
