Three families want to leave Lake Zurich District 95 to join neighboring districts
Three families are seeking approval from a regional education agency to leave Lake Zurich Unit District 95’s boundaries.
The Lake County Regional Board of School Trustees will consider the request at a meeting Monday night in Grayslake. Documents were filed in June with the seven-member elected board.
In the request, the homeowners on the 23000 block of North Hillcrest Drive in unincorporated Lake County — southeast of Quentin and Old McHenry roads — want to join Kildeer-Countryside Elementary District 96 and Stevenson High School District 125. Libertyville attorney Richard Mittelman filed the request on behalf of the Longview Knolls subdivision residents.
Documents state the proposal is in the best interest of children to “promote their safety, educational needs and social welfare.”
Residents Kristen and Mark Linnenburger, Brian and Shelby Anstedt, and Frank, Sally and Stephanie Mete are the homeowners involved in the request. Frank Mete and Mark Linnenburger appeared before the District 95 school board last year to explain their intentions.
Mete said the affected properties are surrounded by District 96, which feeds students into Stevenson High School. He said District 96 school buses pass the area all the time.
“It really has to do with geographical issues,” Mete said of their desire to change districts. “It has nothing to do with nothing else, except for the fact we’re a very isolated area of unincorporated Lake County.”
Mete also said the homes are not adjacent to buildable property, so granting their request would not trigger other departures.
“We’re not creating a slippery slope of any kind,” he said.
District 95 officials haven’t taken a public stance on the matter. But Arlington Heights lawyers Robert Kohn and Babak Bakhtiari have been retained by District 95 to handle the case before the Lake County regional school board.
District 96 serves about 3,100 students in portions of Hawthorn Woods, Kildeer, Long Grove, Lake Zurich, Vernon Hills and Buffalo Grove, where it’s headquartered.
District 125 serves all of Long Grove, unincorporated Prairie View and its base of Lincolnshire, along with sections of Buffalo Grove, Deerfield, Mundelein, Hawthorn Woods, Vernon Hills, Lake Forest, Indian Creek, Wheeling, Lake Zurich, Riverwoods, Kildeer, Palatine and Mettawa.
Its current enrollment is 3,786.
District 95 includes Lake Zurich, Hawthorn Woods, Kildeer and unincorporated area.
It has 5,779 pupils for the current academic season for elementary and high school.
