Island Lake cop honored

Island Lake police officer Billy Dickerson received a Life Saving Award at last week’s village board meeting, for clearing the airway of a teenager on Dec. 2 who was unconscious and not breathing. Dickerson was in the news this summer after he was reinstated as a police officer, three years after being removed from the job. Dickerson and his supporters had argued he was improperly terminated and that his dismissal never was approved by the fire and police commission as required by law.
