Our photographers share some of their favorite images of 2013

A photograph can be a powerful thing.

It can make us smile. It can put a lump in our throat. It can leave us with a sense of wonder.

In a world in which we’re all too busy, a picture can give us a welcome pause, a reason to stop for just an instant to savor an image and explore why it touches us the way it does.

As 2013 draws to a close, it’s time again to look back at some of the work our photographers did over the past year.

Today and later this week we’ll celebrate some of their best work and, we hope, share some images that remind us of the journey we’ve been on for the past 365 days.

You may not immediately recognize the names of our DuPage County photo staff — Scott Sanders, Bev Horne, Mark Black, Paul Michna and Dan White — but we bet you’ll remember some of the pictures they took, the images they created, the memories they captured.

These are our Images of 2013.
