Libertyville resident, business owner meet with congressional leaders on key issues

LIBERTYVILLE, Ill., December 23, 2013 – Allstate Agency Owner Sedrik Newbern and Allstate employee Todd Friedman traveled to Washington, DC recently as part of Allstate's first-ever Congressional “Fly-In” to talk with lawmakers about issues affecting the insurance industry and consumers.

Newbern and Friedman met with Senators Mark Kirk and Dick Durbin, Congresswoman Tammy Duckworth and Congressmen Peter Roskam and Brad Schneider to highlight Allstate's public policy priorities and discuss their experiences as representatives of the insurance industry. Newbern and Friedman were joined by fellow Allstate agency owners and employees from across the country, and by members of Allstate's Federal Affairs team.

“As a small business owner in Libertyville, I know first-hand how the current business climate affects my ability to serve the insurance needs of my customers and the community,” said Newbern.“ It was an honor to meet with my elected officials and deliver an important message on behalf of small business owners throughout my community and for the thousands of Allstate agency owners around the country.”

During the meetings, Newbern and Friedman discussed issues ranging from tax reform to support for modernizing and improving the insurance regulatory system for the benefit of consumers. Additionally, participants discussed the importance of competition in the aftermarket auto parts industry and the need to transform our current catastrophe management system, which could save taxpayers and consumers billions of dollars through the creation of a privately funded, publicly sponsored, national catastrophe fund.

“It's critical for all of us to understand the political process and help educate local lawmakers about issues important to you as a constituent,” said Friedman. “It was an honor to travel to Washington, D.C. and represent Allstate at this event.”
