St. Charles North High drill team off to perform at Liberty Bowl

The St. Charles North High School drill team will be heading to Memphis to perform during half-time at the Dec. 31 Liberty Bowl game between the Rice University Owls and Mississippi State Bulldogs. The 23 varsity and junior varsity dancers are one of nine selected teams from around the country who will be performing at the Liberty Bowl.

St. Charles North coach Nancy Prentiss received the invite last spring. The team is looking forward to the opportunity.

The girls will have a busy, but exciting trip planned. It will include attending a rodeo, a Chicago Bulls-Memphis Grizzlies game, and two full days of practice with famed professional choreographer Dee Caspary, who will be working with the girls on technique and the routine. The team also will ride in the Liberty Bowl parade on Beale Street before their big performance in front of thousands in the stands. This will be the largest crowd the girls have ever danced for.

The girls practice six days a week and come from a long history of winning a state championship in at least one category for well over a decade now. The girls work very hard at their sport, whether in practice or at competitions. They serve throughout their community with Kick-A-Thon, the Living Well Resource Center, and the girls club at Rollins Elementary School in Aurora, along with their usual commitment to dancing at the St. Charles North football and basketball games.
