An interview with the Mickley family.

Q: How long have you been decorating your house like this?

A: The current one, with the animation and stuff like that, is 10 years.

Q: What inspired you to go all out with your decorations?

A: What you see here, we’ve always done. It’s been, “Let’s do more’ and have some more fun with it, and do it for everybody to enjoy, and get in the Christmas spirit.”

Q: How many hours does it take to put up the display?

A: We start the day after Halloween, It takes about three weeks, at three or four hours a day.

Q: How many strings of lights are involved?

A: There are over 18 thousand lights, divided by 100 lights per string. So, over 180 strings.

Q: How much does your electric bill spike in December?

A: It’s about twice more than we normally pay.

Q: What do your neighbors think of your display?

A: We get compliments. There’s a couple down the block that tell us they hope that we win. They have a little niece, and she has to come for every show. One neighbor said today, “The show is wonderful as usual.”
