Local skaters win Midwestern Figure Skating Championships

Recently the 2014 Midwestern Sectional Figure Skating Championships were held in Lansing, Michigan. This competition is the final qualifying event prior to the U.S. Nationals. On November 21, two local skaters, Sophia Pearson and Keenan Prochnow, were crowned the Midwestern Sectional Intermediate Pairs Champions. After skating two beautiful programs, their combined score had them in first place by over 10 points. They now qualify for the U.S. National Championships which take place at the beginning of January in Boston.

Sophia is an 8th grade student at Highland Middle School in Libertyville and Keenan a sophomore at Lake Zurich High School. They have been skating together for 3 years and train at the Glacier Ice Arena in Vernon Hills under the coaching of Chris Howarth.
