Heater starts Elburn fire

An outdoor heating appliance being used during construction is to blame for starting a fire Thursday afternoon at a house in Elburn, authorities said.

The fire broke out at 3:22 p.m. at a two-story single family home on the 200 block of East Nebraska Street. The fire was brought under control in about 40 minutes, but damage to the home left it uninhabitable, according to Chief Kelly Callaghan of the Elburn & Countryside Fire Protection District.

Seven local fire department remained on the scene doing extensive overhaul.

The residents were not home at the time of the fire, and no injuries were reported.

An estimate of the damage was not available.
