Libertyville High School students help area charities
Twenty Libertyville High School student council members and teachers spent Wednesday morning forming a human food chain as they moved hundreds of boxes person-to-person from storage areas inside the building to Libertyville Township trucks.
The student council raised nearly $1,000 and collected more than 2,600 cans of food, paper goods and toiletries as part of the school's 28th annual canned food drive.
“It was better than last year,” said student council President Shannon Roche. “Everyone pulled together to help and we had several fundraisers. It was great.”
The food and goods will be donated to the Libertyville Township Food Pantry, the Libertyville-based Maristella organization and St. Lawrence Church. Maristella serves homeless women and children across Lake County.
