Camp I Am Me New Fundraiser For Highland Middle School

Highland Middle School students challenged staff on Nov. 22 to a volleyball tournament to raise money for the school's new fundraiser, Camp I Am Me. Camp I Am Me is a YMCA camp for children who suffered through a fire.

Then on Nov. 26, the seventh-grade focused on fire safety throughout the day. Teacher Jason Raymond's dad, John, a survivor of Our Lake of Angels school fire talked to the children about that fire on Dec. 1, 1958, which resulted in major fire safety changes to school within a year of the fire. Also talking to students was Lake Zurich firefighter Jeff Ritchie who talked about the forensics of fire investigation.

In the afternoon, students worked on fire safety worksheets, watched a movie on fire safety and wrote a story in journalistic style about a fire.
