Detweiller, Thibeaux pace Grayslake North victory
Kendall Detweiler and Brittney Thibeaux combined for 45 points, and Grayslake North’s girls basketball team earned its first win of the season Tuesday night, defeating Highland Park 60-37 in second-round action of Mundelein’s Turkey Tournament.
Detweiler sank three 3-pointers, finishing with a game-high 23 points. Thibeaux added 22, as the Knights opened up a 12-6 lead after one quarter and led 26-14 at halftime, before outscoring the Giants 24-8 in the third.
Antioch 65, Richmond-Burton 36: Paige Gallimore had 17 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists, as the host Sequoits pulled away in their season opener.
Sequoits freshman guard Amy Reiser added 13 points, 8 steals, 5 rebounds and 3 assists, while her twin, Ashley, contributed 11 points, 6 steals and 5 rebounds. Sophomore Alexis Duehr nabbed 8 rebounds, and Maddie Murillo came off the bench to grab 7 rebounds.
Antioch also received 8 points from Carly McCameron. The Sequoits led only 14-12 after one quarter but then outscored the Rockets 16-4 in the second quarter and 18-8 in the third.
Loyola 40, Warren 32: Kristin O’Brien scored 16 points for the host Blue Devils, who led their season opener 17-16 at halftime before getting outscored 16-9 in the third quarter.
The game was part of the New Trier Thanksgiving Tournament.
Sammi Jo Nixon added 7 points for Warren, and Kristin Jacobs grabbed 10 rebounds.
Grayslake Central 55, Dundee-Crown 49: On Monday night, University of Southern Indiana-bound center Morgan Dahlstrom scored 21 points, including a 3-pointer, as the visiting Rams spoiled the head-coaching debut of former Mundelein star Sarah Miller.
Maddy Miller chipped in 9 points, while Carson Sparkman (3-pointer) and Lauren Spalding added 8 and 7 points, respectively, for Grayslake Central in the season opener. The Chargers led 14-8 after the first quarter, before the Rams outscored them 18-8 in the second quarter.
