Hockey players encourage kids to Read to Succeed

Two Chicago Wolves players are headed to local libraries to talk about reading with kids who are fans of both hockey and books.

The appearances are part of the 19th season of the Wolves’ Read to Succeed program, presented by Butternut Bread and J.U.L.I.E. Inc.

University of Wisconsin-Madison graduate Mike Davies, who plays right wing for the Wolves, is slated to talk at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 3, at the Naper Boulevard Library, 2035 Naper Blvd., Naperville. Ty Rattie, also a right wing, talks at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4, at the Lisle Library, 777 Front St., Lisle.

The Read to Succeed program teaches the importance of recreational reading and encourages children to use the many resources libraries offer. Both players will speak about the benefits of reading outside the classroom and discuss how it plays an important part in their lives as professional athletes.

Participants can win prizes — including Wolves hats, beanies and tickets to upcoming games — for setting and achieving reading goals.

Another program is scheduled for Feb. 18 at the West Chicago Library. Throughout the season, more than 17,000 children will participate in the program, with Wolves players making appearances at libraries throughout the Chicago area.
