Mt. Prospect Fire Dept. receives grant from Illinois American Water

On Oct. 24, Susan Gram and Henry Maradiaga from Illinois American Water presented a $1,000 grant award to the Mount Prospect Fire Department.

The award will be used to purchase hydrant markers, an important firefighting tool that assists firefighters in more quickly and easily locating fire hydrants. This is the third year in a row that the fire department has received this grant from Illinois American Water.

“Locating fire hydrants during inclement weather, and at night, can be a real challenge for firefighters. Hydrant markers are a simple solution to this problem,” said Fire Chief John Malcolm. “This grant will allow us to purchase 50 hydrant markers so that when our firefighters need to utilize hydrants they don’t lose precious time trying to locate one. I would like to thank Illinois American Water for their continued support of our department.”

Through its Firefighter Grant Program, Illinois American Water annually awards grants to local fire departments and districts in its service area. Grant funds can be used for training or to purchase necessary firefighting equipment. This year, Illinois American Water will award over $70,000 to 75 fire departments across Illinois.
