Celebrate Family Reading Night @ the West Chicago Public Library

The West Chicago Public Library District invites you join in the fun as we celebrate Family Reading Night on Thursday, November 21 from 6:30-7:30 pm.

Family Reading Night, sponsored by Jesse White, Secretary of State and State Librarian, and the Illinois Center for the Book, is an annual statewide event that encourages families to spend quality time reading together. This year, at the West Chicago library, families will enjoy lively presentations of stories by favorite costumed book characters Pete the Cat, Olivia, and Fancy Nancy. The evening will include character-themed crafts, and light refreshments will be served.

“The research shows that family support for reading, including reading aloud to children, has a major impact on reading success. Programs like this help us fulfill our vision of building community while offering every child the opportunity to experience the pleasures of reading, the joy of learning and, most importantly, family togetherness which is seldom reached due to scheduling conflicts within households,” says Administrative Librarian Melody E. Coleman.

For more information about the event, please contact the Youth Services department at (630) 231-1552 x3, or visit the library web site at www.westchicago.lib.il.us.
